1.A footbal-field opencall

A football-field opencall: installation made & curated by Henri Cuelenaere, Rik Vonckx and Omar Pluymers, 2021,Zwarte zaal Kask, Ghent

For this Group curated show we asked 25 artists to design a barricade, fence-like structure that would act as a “boundary” or border to host a full functioning Football game.
The show was also launched mid Corona covid 19, when sports events were able to be continued but audio-visual, visual or other performance art weren't. Rather than only a reactionary approach to these events, the aim for this show was to think about value and the position between the artist and what he has made and that, in a collective way. When does the artist discard or destroy and when does he keep?
Using their own work for this fence they knew their work would be damaged, their work would be used instead of consumed. But ironically due to covid safety reasons the performance was cancelled, the football game was not allowed to take place, the works were not used but looked at and the works the artists were hoping to be destroyed where kept. Making this show a sort of limbo between works that are meant to be activated but could not.
